How to clean white sneakers DIY
You just bought wonderful new white high top sneakers, which stupidly are still snow white, even after a day at the park?
A nightmare for the #toocoolforschool people! How do I get rid of this boring “serial killer look” as fast as possible? Very simple: Black tea or coffee grounds helps! The right dosage will make them as dirty as you want them to be.
So, within seconds they can achieve the effect of how they would look after wearing them for half a year.
If you belong to the other type of sneaker-wearer, whose white sneakers always shine bright and white, I have the best DIY tips:
Method 1: Toothpaste
First, roughly pre-clean the shoes with a little water and soap! Then use a toothbrush and toothpaste to scrub off the hardcore stains. Of course, with white (!!) toothpaste. Then remove the toothpaste with a damp cloth, let it dry and you’re done!
Method 2: Baking powder
Simply mix 1:1 baking powder with some soapy water to clean your white shoes. Works wonders!
Method 3: Salamander Premium Sneaker Shoe Cleaner
A product designed just for cleaning sneakers. As a matter of fact, it is not a scam, it actually works! Roughly clean your shoe with a wet sponge. Apply the brush of the bottle top and rub it slowly on the stained areas. Use the sponge to remove the soap and the residuals. Repeat until you are satisfied with the result.
Method 4: Vinegar
Vinegar was already used as a cleaning product before BC. For your sneakers you should rather use a mild vinegar cleaner. And again, the toothbrush can come in handy, otherwise a sponge will do. Important: Clean a shoe as carefully as you would clean your skin.
Method 5: Scouring milk
The most aggressive method, therefore pick a rather SOFT toothbrush or a children’s toothbrush.
Method 6: Wet wipes
The express solution: Almost every woman has wet wipes in her handbag. This enables you to remove superficial dirt from your white shoes very quickly, which, for example, only becomes noticeable shortly before leaving the house.
Method 7: Dirt Eraser
That’s all you need: your dirt eraser and some water. Duck the dirt eraser into the water and squeeze it thoroughly. Rub and remove all the dirt with the dirt eraser. Interesting fact: the consistency of the dirt eraser is porous so do not be surprised if it crumbles.
The first thought that naturally comes to mind with this topic has not even been mentioned yet. The washing machine.
May white sneakers be washed? Yes or no?
I say yes, as long as you don’t use fabric softener. At a highest of 30 degrees and not with your colorful underwear and not to mention baby clothes! Your shoelaces will not be spared and can absolutely be washed as well.
Do not tumble dry the shoes, just stuff them with newspaper and let them dry.
A clever tip at the end: Throw your shoes into the washing machine in a fabric bag. Otherwise, they will feel like socks. Some parts will definitely missing afterwards.
