How to wear the slip dress out of the bedroom
With the start of summer come our cravings for light breezy dresses. It’s fitting then that one of the biggest trends for this season is the satin slip dress and skirt that we’ll be sporting day and night. Yes, the slip dress can be worn outside the bedroom without being overtly sexy and can even bring some cool 90s vibes to your look. Here we tell you exactly how…
Adopted by Nineties icons such as Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, the satin slip dress is now making its comeback from the catwalk to the streets for our greatest pleasure. If you want to keep that grungy attitude and give a twist to a delicate floral strap dress, layer it with a white tee underneath. Choose a printed vintage T-shirt for a 90s revival. If you’re planning on staying out late, a leather biker jacket and black boots will keep you warm when the temperature drops and add a rock’n’roll touch to the girly staple.
There’s streetwear penchant in this season’s favourite slip dresses, and hot brands such as Off-White have immediately jumped on the trend. This one comes in a mint green hue, asymmetrical hem and is logo-emblazoned to show edgy oomph. Adding a denim oversized jacket and retro white trainers will give contrast to the shiny character of the dress, while turning it into a cool outfit to wear in the midst of the city. It works also perfectly well if you just want to grab a quick coffee with friends – just say you woke up like this!
If you’re not the dress type of girl, then opt for its sister the midi skirt, which has the right length to wear comfortably at work. Animal prints are definitely in and we’re crushing for the controversial leopard type which, once associated with a classic white shirt, will give away all of its feline appeal. Tuck the front of the shirt inside the skirt and leave it loosely fall in the back to show off that smart casual look from the office to afterwork drinks. Black barely-there heeled sandals will give enough height to make the skirt flow lightly around your legs and follow your slightest movements.
For a special occasion, wear a maxi slip dress on bare skin and choose a colour that highlights your own complexion. Bright hues look great on tanned skin and if colours are not to your taste, go back to black with this Gauchère criss-crossed dress. If you’d like to make a sparkling impression, accessorise the look with waterfall earrings worn with a pretty hair-do and smoky makeup. Of course, heels are a must-have here but prefer kitten heel sandals to vertiginous stilettos so you can dance the night away without danger.
