Maison Common's designer Rieke Common about her life during Corona
The brand with the pink bow, that's how the German fashion label Maison Common is known. Founded by former Rena Lange creative director Rieke Common in 2014, the company stands for feminine individuality, joie de vivre and luxury. All products are manufactured entirely in Europe (80% in Germany, knitwear comes from Italy) and show a perfect blend of vibrant colours, creative playfulness and perfect tailoring.
For the fashion designer remaining innovative and creative is essential to stay on top. In times of lockdowns, closed shops and with her children at home, the modern power woman has to change her way of working. How does her everyday life look like now? Plus: Rieke Common provides us with a list of her favorite books.
MADAME: Where are you currently?
R.C.: I go to my atelier every morning and work. The captain leaves the ship last!
M: Do you stay in contact with your clients?
R.C.: Yes, we are in contact with our customers who have shops and can’t open them at the moment. We have an online shop and offering our customers who ordered our collection the possibility to sell their buy on our platform. Not every shop has an online shop.
M: What's the biggest challenge for you right now?
R.C.: The biggest challenge is that our kids are at home and can not go to school or see their friends. That changes the whole daily routine.
M: How do you entertain yourself now (Netflix, books, Instagram, ...)?
R.C.: If I am not in the office , I spend time with my kids and husband and I read al lot right now. Books and books and books.
M: Books you can recommend?
R.C.: 'Kurkonzert' by Oscar Heym, 'Der Freund von früher' by Wolfgang Müller, 'Der Apfelbaum' by Christian Berkel, 'Gedrängte Wochenübersicht' by Jochen Malmsheimer, 'Allmen und der Koi' by Martin Suter, 'Das Labyrinth der Träumenden Bücher' by Walter Moers
M: Is there anything you might change in future?
R.C.: Maybe calm down a little more often. And the most important thing: Make the collection smaller!
