Four swimwear labels you have to know
Because the ideal summer holiday includes bikinis, sand and sea: We have asked four exciting new swimwear designers for their best travel tips
If you live on Bali, bikinis are of course part of the wardrobe every day. Because the Australian Kat Furey couldn't find the perfect swimwear during her time in Indonesia, she founded Palm Swimwear. The bikinis and swimsuits she has been designing since then have a simple cut and are not just natural in color with nuances ranging from earth tones to sunset orange - the overall concept is also sustainable: Econyl, a recycled plastic fabric from fishing nets, and a new, compostable nylon are used for the collection.
Where do you spend your holidays when you are not working on the most beautiful beaches in the world? We choose either a very near or a very distant destination. When we are in Bali, we travel to Ubud, Lombok or the Gili Islands. When we fly to Europe, we spend time in Spain. Seville is one of our favourite cities, but I also like the small towns like Xàbia and Vejer de la Frontera.
The most beautiful hotel you've ever stayed in? The "Taj Lake Palace" in Udaipur, India, because the architecture and the service are not comparable to anything else. If you want to live royally for at least one day, you should stay there overnight. And of course the Indian cuisine is unique.
Which beaches do you recommend in your home country Australia? On a really hot summer day, the beaches of Perth and Rottnest Island are unbeatable - the water is clean, clear and cool. In the west of Australia the locals say: "The sunsets here are the best in the world".
Would you rather go to the sea alone or with friends? Nothing is more relaxing than reading a book on the beach alone. But I also have many great memories of beach barbecues with friends.
What do you wear for dinner on the beach in the evening? A swimsuit. You can wear it anywhere, from the beach to the bar, if you combine it with a wrap skirt, a light shirt or wide trousers.
Marysia Dobrzanska Reeves was a ballerina and surfer before her career as a fashion designer. Both influences can be found everywhere in her designs: in the seamless shell hems Marysia started with as her trademark - and in the perfectly cut swimsuits and bikinis discreetly decorated with flounces, lacing details and bows. The designer lives with her husband and two daughters in Venice Beach. She continues to collect inspiration for her collections on the beach. "I love to observe my surroundings and their beauty," Marysia says in an interview. "And when I see something inspiring, I catch it with my mobile phone or on paper."
Where do you prefer to spend your holidays? I like to discover new places like Puglia recently, or Tulum and Australia, but I also spend my holidays regularly on Harbour Island. I love the Bahamas with their pink beaches and turquoise water.
Do you enjoy the beach alone or with your family? My family makes me so happy - and summer means for me to spend more time with them by the sea.
What do you have in your beach bag? Besides a good book and sun protection, everything my children can throw into it.
What do you wear for lunch or dinner at the Beach Bar? With my swimsuit "Venice Maillot" I can style different outfits. It works individually for swimming or as a top under a skirt or trousers.
Which hotel particularly impressed you? The "Amangiri" in Utah. The beauty of the location and the pool in front of the scenery of the canyons are like a parallel world. That immediately inspired me for my new collection.
Three Graces London
When Catherine Johnson discovered numerous women in her designs on the beach in the summer of 2016, the collection of Three Graces London actually consisted exclusively of nightdresses. The experience inspired the designer to add real beach dresses to her collection a year after the launch. This was followed a year later by the addition of bikinis and swimsuits - a logical step and answer to the high demand from buyers. Three Graces London is named after the Graces, the Greek goddesses for grace and beauty. The charm and beauty of Three Graces London's swimwear manifest themselves in summer colors from sky blue to sunflower yellow and a perfect fit thanks to fine fabrics from Italy.
What is your most beautiful retreat for a holiday? We travel so much all year round that we usually spend our summer holidays in Europe. Last year we went by boat around Corfu and Paxos. It was great to spend the days on the water and to stop again and again in idyllic bays for lunch or sightseeing.
Which places did you particularly like? On Paxos we fell in love with the charming harbours of Gaios, Longos and Lakka with their beautiful taverns. On Corfu we were drawn to the north of the island, especially to Agios Stefanos, Gimari and Kassiopi.
Do you remember an extraordinary hotel you once visited? I especially like to remember the "Uxua Casa Hotel" in Trancoso, Bahia. Brazil is also our favourite beach. Whenever we are there, we plan to just stay there forever.
Would you rather be alone on the beach or with family and friends? Definitely with my family and friends.
What do you put in your beach bag? Sunscreen, water and a good book. Currently I'm reading "Becoming", the biography of Michelle Obama.
What do you wear for lunch or dinner at the Beach Bar? A swimsuit and over it our long beach dress "Almost a Honeymoon".
Just as the country has long been underestimated as a tourist destination, this fact has probably been overlooked for far too long: Colombia is - surrounded by Caribbean beaches, with its deep jungle and colorful nature - one of the best places in the world to design exceptionally beautiful swimwear. Silvia de Brigard founded the label Verdelimon in her home country, which is as feminine and optimistic as one would imagine from the pen of a Colombian woman: Swimsuits with deep back necklines and large bows and bikinis with high-cut trousers meet fun prints. Her designs are "flirty", says Silvia de Brigard, but also made for every adventure.
Where do you spend your most beautiful holidays? On the Mexican Riviera. My perfect retreats are secluded, peaceful and exotic, for example Cobá, the Mayan ruined city on the Yucatán peninsula.
In which hotel did you stay there? In the "Coqui Coqui Coba Residence & Spa". This hotel was an incredible experience for me. It is hidden in the jungle, 45 kilometers away from Tulum. You stay there in rooms inspired by the Mayan ruins, relax in a quiet lagoon and listen to nature.
Where in the world is your favourite beach? On the Caribbean Islas del Rosario, 30 minutes from Cartagena, in my beautiful homeland Colombia. I love the turquoise water, the colorful coral reefs and the white sand.
Which outfit do you choose for lunch or dinner at the Beach Bar? Always a printed robe from Verdelimon that I can wear openly over my bikini - and only add when it's time to eat.
