Instant Update: How to layer your necklaces
There are some fashion trends - think chunky knit sweaters, mules and leopard print - that are relatively easy to master. Others, like the layered necklace trend, require a touch more finesse and a little know-how to make it work. But the beauty of this trend is that it instantly updates anything you already know. Need to impress at a big meeting? Layer a few delicate chains over your suit and a basic tee. Does that one-shoulder cocktail dress need a lift? Pile on a couple of strands for maximum impact.
To get started, focus on length. Each necklace should be of varying lengths and lay flat. You want each piece to be easily visible. You don't have to stick to one metal - mixing silver and gold is definitely a thing - but it makes a stronger statement if you do.
Throw a choker in the mix. One necklace worn close to the neck with a few loose strands below looks cool. Two chokers in the same combo looks even cooler. Playing with the weight of your necklaces and mixing thinner chains with thicker ones or chunky pendants with smaller ones is the way to go. With this trend, playing with proportions is key. And don't forget that gems, either costume or precious, are your friends. Now is the time to play with high/low pieces.
