The Only 5 Coat Trends You Will Need This Winter
If you’re not going big, you’re going home – literally, it’s freezing outside. We’re all about going big for this season’s coat trends, because it's ALL about the coat this year. It doesn’t matter the shape, length or color. It just matters that you’ve got one and that it's grand.
I know I just said grand, but while floor-length coats looks mesmerizing on runway models walking down the catwalk, it doesn’t feel quite as chic while dragging cigarette butts, coffee cups and other litter with you as you walk. Oh and of course, let's not forget about getting stuck in car doors or bicycle wheels. So, grand IS what you’re aiming for, but not too grand.
Now, how can you wear these trends without looking like a dust collector? And be warm and practical and stylish, but stay trendy? We’ve narrowed the coats down to five looks that represent the catwalk and will be in your closets soon.
As a side note, most of these coats tick some other trend boxes as well. So having these trends cross over saves us some time and money, because there’s nothing more impactful than a good outerwear piece. Continue to see the coats and trends that will be keeping you warm and in style.
JW Anderson presented an oversized trench and puff – we’re in love. The sleeves were puffed and belted around the waist for an oversized version. Not only has the new trench been puff-ormed, but beige is out, while any other color is in. Try the larger new trench in vinyl or go for a longer, looser sleeve as well! Puff, is that the girl from the runway, is what they’ll be saying.
This season we’re about seriously long outerwear. Any kind of oversized coat will do. It just has to be long enough, so we only see your footwear when buttoned up. As stated earlier, these kinds of coats aren’t necessarily practical (especially if you’re short -sorry), but you can always get them hemmed to just the right length, so you’re not sweeping the ground with your coat.
Another piece that was raved about during fashion week was the hot pink trench coat from Jacquemes. So obviously, a pink coat (again, oversized) is a must. The style is not so relevant for this trend. It’s more about making sure you opt for the boldest pink you can find. While pink may not go with everything in your wardrobe, you are guaranteed to make a statement.
Some version or another of the teddy coat seems to sneak its way down the runway. Fluffy coats are always a must-have. Stella McCartney’s faux fur and Max Mara’s alpaca wool teddy-bear coats are the ones we’ve got on our Christmas list. Also, no need to stay neutral, try a blue one!
After a little break, the cape has returned and this times it’s ready and back for good (or at least a while). We all know the school girl cape, but this is 2019's version, and we’re switching it up. There are all different styles from Valentino’s floor length to Celine’s laid-back, yet rock ‘n’ roll capes.
There you have it. Five coats that are completely different from each other, but ALL trendy and ALL statement-ready for you to turn heads these winter months. Remember, the biggest consideration when shopping is to think oversized and go with some color. Neutrals are boring, color is the new cool!
