Do our shoes really need a spa?
Are the soles of your Christian Louboutin Pigalles losing their glossy red lustre or your white Gucci sneakers looking a little dull? Maybe they just need some pampering!
Wait a second: Are we still wearing fashion or is fashion wearing us? Just asking, given the fact that our much-loved clothes and shoes now seem to have a much better lifestyle than we ourselves. Yep, Pucci two-pieces now travel right to private yachts via Vault Couture, and luxurious shoes take a day of R & R (in this case, restoring and repairing) at the ShoeSPA London. While their owner desperately tries to make some time on her schedule for at least a little manicure! Of course, the ShoeSPA sounds like just another really good name for another top-notch cobbler. But in reality, it is much more.
Former financial officer Paul Kaniuk launched it three years ago after moving from Amsterdam to London, where he found himself walking much more due to the city’s overcrowded public transportation system. Of course, the streets left their mark on Paul’s expensive formal shoes. Life in a metropolis obviously is not only more stressful for human beings. But also for shoes. “I was attached to them,” he says - and got disappointed by all the shoe repair services he tried. That is a feeling we all know, right? Observing our favourite shoes age, and not in a good way - refusing to say Farewell until the very last moment in which you cannot any longer ignore the fact that they are: dead. They were just so beautiful and perfect at the beginning of our love story! With the help from ShoeSPA, born in 2016, maybe the love story now can last a little longer. The extensive list of pampering services for the loves of your life really sounds like excellent anti-aging. According to Kaniuk, the most popular treatment is a leather and colour restoration (or colour changing) which aims to make shoes look and feel like new, including painting and polishing red Louboutin soles. And like any luxury service, attention to detail is a must. “The precious Louboutin logo remains,” says Paul.
So, ShoeSPA is not really just another quality cobbler. Who may be an excellent craftsman, but sometimes lacks the attention to design elements and precious details who are reasons why fashionistas fall in love with a piece in the first place.
By the way, also other fashionable creatures are welcome guests. If your bestie Kate, the lovely Saint Laurent clutch, had an accident with a glass of red wine, pamper her with a spa day for stain removal! The therapists from ShoeSPA will handle all aspects of repairing your favorite handbags, too.
If you don’t live in London, simply send pictures of your items for evaluation, then your stressed-out accessory friends on a recovery trip. They will return looking fresh and rejuvenated. It is possible you will shed a few tears upon their return - don´t worry, you are not alone: “Our customers are sometimes very attached to their shoes and bags and their reaction can be a bit emotional,” says the owner. Our fear is that these are not only tears of joy but also tears for the fact that your rejuvenated friend looks better than you. If that´s the case, it is definitely time for a spa day, for humans.
