Bohemian Summer Clothes
Summer is here and we're excited to wear airy summer clothes.
If you want to be up-to-date, you need a patterned dress made out of light cotton and loose fabric - yes, you need a so called bohemian summer dress. Some designers have picked up again that loved look again.
Bohemian style, Boho Chic - for romantic, freshly in love or unconventional women.
An artistic style - which is now becoming the hottest summer trend. The bohemian fashion has typical elements from the 70s.
Take a bit of woodstock, some flower power, hippie vibes and headbands combined with fluttering dresses and flowers in your hair - compared with ethnic elements.
This doesn't only get you in a good mood, but also conveys the perfect summer feeling. Embodies your figure and thanks to the soft fabric, small problem areas become almost invisible.
The bright colours illuminate a grey summer day and enliven the complexion.
What was the origin of trend?
Bohemian became a 'subculture of artistic and intellectual fringe groups that were against bourgeois attitudes and behaviours' (Wikipedia)
As early as the middle of the 19th century, French artists celebrated their sense of freedom with an emphatically casual lifestyle, which was also reflected in their clothing. At that time, flowing dresses made of light, colourfully printed fabrics were very popular.
The trend celebrated its first revival in the 60s and 70s. Hippie outfits were styled up with a good portion of jewellery, a subliminal message and a lot of make-up.
Kate Moss and Sienna Miller revived the look 30 years later. Slip hats, long necklaces and fur vests were the distinguishing marks. Modernized with mini skirts and wide belts.
What makes this look so special?
All in all the boho style is feminine - never serious and fits (depending on the styling) for every location - in the office and to a festival.
Today, the boho look embodies a multi-cultural feeling. This can be seen in the traditional patterns from different ethical cultures, which are put together as patchwork patterns.
Elaborate embroideries support the style. Tassels and fringe as styling ornaments give the look something playful and feminine. New is the mixture with fine lace.
The motto for the style is: freedom for mind, body and soul. Wide cuts and the softly sculpted, light moving material should reflect this.
What is the difference to previous Boho styles?
Now you can mix different styles! A folk-looking blouse is combined on top with wide wide-legged trousers, flat sandals to compliment the dress, but the rough cowboy boots which were worn in the 70's remain in the closet.
A light bohemian top goes equally well with jeans and a slim skirt. Jeans or leather jackets pulled over the dresses bring a fashionable power. Sneakers or sandals go well with it too.
For the transition into autumn, when the days become a little cooler, your dresses and blouses can be styled with long boots and thick cardigan. The contrast to the materials brings excitement and create a casual look that will stay hip in the coming seasons.
Boho blouses with tight short shorts can be worn in leisure time or on holiday. Short really means short, just covering the bottom - perhaps as a small revolution against the bourgeoisie?
