Successful people, who fall in love with each other, often share the same passions, but not the same city. That leads to heavy travelling, mailing, calling and missing the loved one. Tons of clothes move from one place to the other and back again. At least, this problem can be solved.
On the one hand, there is this tear evoking romance of weekend relationships. There are SMSs; like „miss your kiss” or „can`t wait to feel your breath around my neck”. There are telephone calls, ending at four in the mourning, saying: "I got nothing more to say, except: I love you and I miss you and I can`t wait to have you in my arms again, baby.”
On the other hand, it needs a bus load of pragmatism, to keep a weekend relationship going.
Flights, train rides, birthdays, dinner parties have to be organized and put into sync. Birthday and Christmas presents need to be carried around from one place to another. Celebrations have to be rescheduled. Precious moments can`t be shared, but only told about over the telephone.
Besides the social and emotional aspects, fashion and outfits must also be considered. Decisions have to be made:
shall we decide every Friday what to what to wear on the weekend (1 - 2 hours), depending on the weather report (another hour) and the activities that will possibly take place (or not, again depending on the weather report - another hour).
Or shall we decide to have two wardrobes and save time, be more relaxed and feel more comfortable at both places?
This can be liberating. Not only because you will never again have to get your weekend-outfits together for the rest of your life (which spares you a couple of weeks of precious lifetime, otherwise uselessly spent on clothes-decision-making), it can really be fun.
To begin with, picture what you like to do at your second home, which you won`t do at your first: go hiking, visit the opera, spend some time at the seaside, go out elegantly, work in the garden, go golfing - whatever. Then extract everything from your wardrobe that you don`t use at your first home, but will be handy at your second.
Next: check items that you own more than one of and that can be useful in both your first and second home. Double features go straight to your second home, defining your basic outfits there (also see our detox-features on this site).
Third and most enjoyable: think of occasions at your second home that you don`t have any outfits for at all (golfing, opera, clubbing, whatever).
Now go shopping!
Come home, sip some champagne and enjoy your new wardrobe and the peace and quiet feeling of never again in your life having to decide what you need to pack for next weekend.
