From CADA with "Love"...
Love is what is in the room when you stop opening gifts at Christmas and listen instead. Or when after opening the gift, the woman wears love on her finger or neck.
The Munich jewellery label CADA - founded in 1986 by Annette and Herbert Kopp - currently has one of the most beautiful symbols of love as jewellery. CADA stands for Creativity Art Design and Anarchy.
In an interview Annette and Herbert Kopp, they revealed to us what else CADA stands for. 8 questions - 8 answers:
Let's start with LOVE right away: How did you come up with LOVE?
"The famous LOVE sculpture in New York by the artist Robert Indiana inspired me..."
What does the classic CADA customer look like?
"We have 3 generations of customers. It's great. They are teenagers to 90 year olds - but our main customers are working 35-50 year old women. Sometimes we also have men as customers, who come alone to buy something, especially around Christmas."
How do you feel about costume jewellery?
"There is some great costume jewellery out there! If it looks good or is a good design, then it's good. For example, our owls, we were influenced by costume jewellery, but we work with gold or silver and precious stones in our goldsmith's studio. Our CADA owl is made with over 300 individually set coloured sapphires. And that's cool."
Your jewellery icons?
"In the 80s, it was Robert Lee Morris, whom we adored. He was a costume jeweler from New York. And the Dior's jewellery designer, Victoire de Castellane, - is super."
What makes your jewellery so special?
"Creativity, coolness, charm and quality is our motto and I think you can see that, too. Our jewellery is jewellery that can always be worn and should be uncomplicated. easy to wear. Not something you just put in a safe. The times of only wearing necklaces in the evening are over. No one does that anymore. You should wear it and be able to wear it! It should make you happy!"
What is luxury shopping for you?
"Real luxury or luxury shopping is when you get good personal consultation."
"Quality is clearly extremely important and every design is carefully developed. First, we draw and sketch a lot to bring the idea to life. Then we make models out of wax or metal. Our goldsmiths finish the pieces. We do everything ourselves: from the big cocktail ring to the catalogues, the website and even the entire interior of the shop, which used to have a big influence on other jewellery shops."
How do you explain your success?
"We are small, have no big company behind us, so we are mobile and can therefore play."
By the way: I absolutely l o v e the owls! The owl's face and cautious movements make us think of the owl as wise and clever. The owl gives the impression of a seemingly intellectual being and so we attribute to it a part of our own intelligence and mental abilities.
The owl also has holds special meaning to native American Indians. Some tribes worshipped the owl for its courage and strength. Others believed that owls embodied the souls of the deceased and saw them as guardian spirits.
Sapphires are available in so many super colors: pink, pink, red, yellow, orange, white, sky blue to night blue - you can pick up the whole palette and work like a painter.
They sparkle incredibly, even if they are small. Beautiful!
