Cycling shorts: Please do not, no, never again, terrible!
Wishful thinking and reality rarely gape open as much as when it comes to this little jewel! The cycling shorts! In the fashion industry: Biker shorts. It's been making a comeback and this time it seems to be here to stay.
Lagerfeld started it in 2017 and now you can see it being worn everywhere on the runways from D&G to Off White, Nina Ricci and Saint Laurent.
It merely seems to be a matter of time until we'll come across the biker shorts in places outside the catwalk and the gym.
I think biker shorts are terrible! Wearing them almost all men look ridiculous and almost all women look like the Michelin Man.
Cycling shorts are on the same level as a g-string sticking out of a pair of low rise jeans or pink juicy joggers.
That those shorts are altogether accepted as “actual” pants, is blowing my mind!
Of course fashion journalists support this trend and push it back to the top. “Confidence”, “a statement”, etc... it all sounds very plausible. Sure, after all that's how we justify our own optical inaccessibility.
Ladies, the girls on runways neither have to elongate their legs. Therefore, please DO NOT forget: Cycling shorts not always transform your legs into toothpicks.
In the 80's you wore biker shorts with oversized hoodies or sweatshirts, white sneakers and ruffle socks – Then in the 90's: The Lady Di look! Does that ring a bell? Sometimes pink, sometimes Orange. Then the Kardashian clan arrived. There's no doubt that Kim K is a pioneer of the biker shorts trend.
Combining it with sneakers is a no no these days. Women wear heels or strappy sandals and combine it with a blazer.
Outside the gym and apart from spinning the tight trend accessory won't gain acceptance in men's fashion, at least I hope so. Good riddance!
Fun fact: A hotel in New Zealand actually forbids their guests to wear lycra biking shorts. “Tall men with tiny shorts” are not an appropriate view for children. The “bumps and elevations” are an impertinence. Especially in the wrong places.
The biking shorts are a positive look merely for nostalgic reasons. It brings out the inner child in us.
